Lake Travis Reads presents
“From Africa to Lake
Travis: Faith and Forgiving”
As part of the month long activities to support the
Lake Travis Reads book, “This Voice in my Heart,” by local runner Gilbert
Tuhabonye, there will be a communitywide, non-denominational discussion at
Emmaus Catholic Parish, 1718
Lohman's Crossing on Thursday, September 18th at 7pm. Everyone
is invited to join us to watch a short documentary, “Diary
of Immaculee.” This film by an award winning team sheds some
light on the Hutu-Tutsi conflict in Rwanda.
Afterwards, there will be community dialogue about
the conflicts in Africa, ethnic cleansing, and the miraculous ability for
survivors to forgive their attackers. How does a conflict across the globe
from us impact our lives here in the Lake Travis area? All thoughts and
questions are relevant and welcome. Refreshments will be served.
Along with the Lake Travis Reads committee, Father
Samuel Hose, pastor of Emmaus Catholic Parish, will serve as host. In
addition to his parish activities over the years, Father Samuel has been
involved in a number of ecumenical and inter-religious activities and
efforts to promote charity and social justice. He served as a founding
board member of InterACT (Interfaith AIDS Care Teams, now Interfaith Care
Alliance). He also was on the Board of Directors of Austin Area
Inter-religious Ministries.
